Job Description


Provides staff support, leadership and professional counsel and guidance, motivating staff and their actions to ensure effective implementation of various programs

  • Provides staff support, leadership and professional counsel and guidance, motivating staff and their actions to ensure effective implementation of various programs
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, assigns specific areas of responsibility to each person, including tasks and duties; provides freedom to and motivation for staff to perform their jobs professionally; ensures these responsibilities are carried out in the most effective way; and conducts regular performance reviews with direct reports and others where necessary
  • Ensures properly handling, safekeeping, accounting and reporting of all financial activity and the integrity of Food Export – Northeast organization in all its operations. Maintain and abide by all relevant policies including employment, non-discrimination, financial and others as relevant.
  • Participates in and contributes to a comprehensive team-atmosphere involving both Food Export – Northeast and Food Export – Midwest and does so in close communication with the Executive Director in execution of all duties
  • Contributes to the Food Export Management Team through regular management team meetings, adhering to “challenge up, support down” approach, taking direct personal responsibility for success of the entire organization etc.
Interacts with outside entities regarding all issues relative to export of US high-value agricultural products
  • Promotes programs and services to and engages with Food Export – Northeast member states, participant companies, foreign buyers and current or potential partners to ensure maximum support for our mission, resources, programs and services
  • Provides one-on-one consulting to US companies on potential foreign market opportunities or refers them to appropriate Food Export services
  • Represents Food Export – Northeast at appropriate conferences, seminars, meetings, receptions, and other functions to include both attending and speaking publicly on international trade topics
  • Ability to represent Food Export – Northeast to a variety of governmental and industry staff at all levels from across the world including traveling domestically and internationally to evaluate potential market opportunities
  • May attend Board of Directors meetings and assist with preparing and delivering presentations to the board
  • Cooperate fully with other entities in completing projects with common goals as appropriate such a member states, Food Export – Midwest, other Market Access Program/Agricultural Trade Promotion Program cooperators and the Foreign Agricultural Service
  • Makes appropriate policy recommendations to Executive Director and Program Committee to ensure that the best interests of the member states are reflected in the operation of the program

Requirements


Education:
  • Four-year college degree in a related field. 
  • Advanced degree in a relevant area is desirable
Work Experience (highly preferred):
  • +10 years or equivalent in general business management as well as non-profit and member-based organization management: understanding of personnel policies, general accounting and financial practices, leadership and team development, board leadership structures, and management of volunteers.
  • Knowledge or experience in any or all of the following areas is desired:  international marketing or international trade, private sector business and marketing practices, value-added agricultural products,  food production and marketing techniques, particularly for international markets, as well as knowledge of international market development strategies; ability to analyze, interpret and apply market research to a coordinated marketing strategy; non-profit management and administration of government grant funding
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State export development programs desirable
  • Project management experience is essential 
  • Considerable ability to prepare oral and written reports in a professional manner, and to communicate effectively both in person as well as in a variety of public speaking situations
  • Competency in relevant computer and Internet capabilities and uses
Core Competencies:
  • Requires a complete understanding of all generally accepted accounting principles, including fund accounting, and all internal control practices and their practical implementation.  Understands and is able to complete all required journal entries, posting, financial statement and subsidiary report preparation and review to ensure accuracy and balance.  Understands and is able to complete budget preparation and analysis.  An understanding of and experience with using Abila MIP Fund Accounting (MIP) fund accounting software program, the Market Access Program, Foreign Agricultural Service policies and procedures, and how they affect all Food Export - Northeast's financial activities is strongly desired. 
  • Requires focused attention to detail, organization and administrative skills; requires advanced software competency, including Microsoft Office 2010, and ADP’s suite of payroll, time tracking and 401k administration products.
  • Must be able to prepare oral and written reports in a professional and concise manner, and be able to communicate effectively.
Unusual Physical Demands:
  • This position requires light duty physical work during general office duties, trade shows, market promotions, and during international travel mode.  In addition, international travel creates stress due to fatigue because of tight schedules, long working hours away from home, jet lag and unusual diets characteristic of international travel.  Domestic travel may require two to four weeks of travel per year.

Unusual Work Environment:

  • Up to two weeks per year may be spent in international travel mode.  Overseas work environments change depending upon the country and city

Other Requirements:

  • The incumbent must have, or be able to obtain a valid U.S. passport, or hold a valid visa or other legal U.S. immigration or residency status to allow unrestricted travel between the U.S. and designated foreign countries as required by program
