Food Export Association of the Midwest USA is a non-profit organization that promotes the export of food and agricultural products from the Midwest region of the US. The organization has been helping exporters of Midwest food and agricultural products sell their products overseas since 1969, when it was first created as a cooperative effort between 13 Midwest state agricultural promotion agencies and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). 

Food Export USA – Northeast is a private, non-profit trade association of Northeast state agricultural promotion agencies. Our mission is the development and expansion of international markets for U.S. food and value-added agricultural products. We participate in the Market Access Program (MAP) of the Foreign Agricultural Service of USDA.

Job Summary:

The International Marketing Program Intern is responsible for assisting and supporting Food Export – Midwest & Northeast program staff with implementing and tracking International Marketing programs and services. The intern will assist with the preparation, coordination, and follow-up for programs and events, such as Buyers Missions at U.S. trade shows, Focused Trade Missions, international trade shows, educational programming, and market research.

Responsibilities:

  • Tracking company inquiries, participation, and evaluations in the database.  Information will be used to evaluate performance and market programs and services to appropriate groups.
  • Researching company contact information including website, email, and mailing addresses to ensure information is up to date and to reach more companies that are eligible for Food Export’s programs and services.
  • Contacting companies via phone to collect evaluations as follow-up from Food Export – Midwest & Northeast activities.
  • Assisting Food Export-Midwest & Northeast staff with writing success stories about small and medium size food and agricultural exporters that have participated in our programs and services.
  • Preparing and sending materials for foreign buyers and U.S. exporters who participate in Food Export – Midwest & Northeast activities.
  • Provides administrative support to the International Marketing Program team, including organizing files, scheduling meetings, and taking meeting notes.
  • Undertaking special research and other projects and tasks as directed by Food Export – Midwest & Northeast staff

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer/client service skills. – Required to have
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic team environment.

Technical Skills:

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

Current Undergraduate or Graduate student

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
