Recent years have witnessed a dramatic growth in private brands (also referred to as private label, store brands, own label and own brand). In 2017 every continent showed growth in market share of private brands. The global market share now approaches 17% of all food products sold and is increasing at an accelerating rate. In order to assist U.S. manufacturers in capturing this opportunity, Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast will be conducting a webinar exploring how to best develop new private brand opportunities around the world for U.S. manufacturers.  

Topics to be covered include:

  • Provide a fundamental understanding of store brand dynamics
  • Explore current trends that influence the market for U.S. made products around the world
  • Describe the selling and decision-making processes for private brands in several key markets
  • Identify useful sources of information, trade events, and other resources that may be helpful to manufacturers looking to enter the private brand marketplace

About the Presenter:

Jim WisnerJim Wisner was a Vice-president at Jewel Food Stores, Shaw's Supermarkets, and Topco Associates before starting the Wisner Marketing Group in 1999. Wisner Marketing has developed many industry-wide research and education programs including Center Store Renewal, Supply Chain Optimization for Specialty Foods, Multicultural Marketing, Ask PLMA, and others. Wisner Marketing is currently developing the first industry-wide approach to Store Brand Category management with FMI.

Jim is a popular speaker and has presented on private brands on six continents. He has served as adjunct faculty in the Private Label Executive Education Programs at both St. Josephs University in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. Jim is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and earned his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
