Dickinson Brands has been a pioneer in the marketing and distribution of Natural and Organic Skincare and Personal Care brands since 1854. Dickinson is the sister company of American Distilling Inc., the world’s largest producer of Witch Hazel, supplying cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients to leading Health, Beauty, and Personal Care companies around the globe to support their market-leading brands. The combination of these two entities has created an unsurpassed marketing and manufacturing infrastructure for witch hazel-based products. The company’s iconic brands have become staples in American households that generations have relied on for over 150 years. It is also a leader in the natural/organic skincare and personal care categories.
The East Hampton, Connecticut-based company’s brands are highly successful in the U.S., with nationwide distribution in both mainstream retail and natural/health channels, reaching over 60,000 retail doors and growing. Our global footprint includes markets in Asia, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean markets, and now Mexico!
In 2023, the Connecticut supplier participated in Food Export-Northeast’s Branded Program to gain brand awareness in Mexico. The active Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and the United States makes the market ideal for the company due to the market size and demographics. The company’s brands have very strong sell-throughs in major retailers and have more than 50% share within personal care. Dickinson Brands viewed the market as easily adaptable for the brands to create product awareness with product education via in-store activities, banners, social media, and digital advertisements.
Dickinson Brands used their allocated funding to ship product samples, complete a digital marketing plan to develop social media awareness, produce promotional giveaway items, complete in-store promotions, make product label changes to be market compatible, and create promotional literature.
This March, Dickinson Brandes reported gaining $12,000 in sales with the help of its Branded Program participation and promotion, with an additional $50,000 in projected sales over the next twelve months. The supplier also gained 4 new foreign buyer contacts and established 1 new distributorship. This sale to Mexico is also notable in representing a first-time sale to the market!
Dickinson Brands started participating in Food Export’s Branded Program in 2022. The company has also taken advantage of Food Export’s Market Builder service, Export Essentials, webinars, and the Export Advisor Program.
Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
