Food Export-Midwest

Food Export Association of the Midwest USA is a non-profit organization that promotes the export of food and agricultural products from the Midwestern region of the United States. We’ve been helping U.S. suppliers of Midwestern food and agricultural products sell overseas since 1969.

What We Do

Working with our 13 Midwestern member states, Food Export-Midwest provides a wide range of services to facilitate trade between local food suppliers and importers around the world. These services include:

  • Export promotion
  • Customized export assistance
  • A cost-share funding program

Find additional information about these activities and our other services on the Programs & Services page.

The Midwest’s Bounty

The Midwest is one of the world’s leading food-producing areas. Midwestern farmers harvest grain, as well as oil seeds, fruits and vegetables, beans, livestock, and dairy products. The Midwest is home to hundreds of companies who provide consumers around the globe with high quality processed food and agricultural products. Check out our most recent Annual Report and learn about how Food Export-Midwest benefits companies and impacts the Midwestern region.

Our History

In 1969 our organization was first created as a cooperative effort between 13 Midwestern state agricultural promotion agencies and the United States Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). See our member states on the - State Agricultural Promotion Agencies page.

Food Export-Midwest is one of four State Regional Trade Groups (SRTGs) that help companies with export promotion. Three other regional groups, Food Export USA-Northeast, SUSTA, and WUSATA provide similar services for companies based or sourcing product from outside of the Food Export-Midwest 13-state region.

Partnership with Food Export-Northeast

Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast formed a strategic partnership to increase their ability to promote high-value U.S. food and agricultural products. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are two of four nationwide State Regional Trade Groups (SRTGs) that are dedicated to helping U.S. food and agricultural companies sell their products in international markets.

Food and agricultural exporters throughout the Midwest and Northeast benefit from the alliance. U.S. companies experience improved program effectiveness, more consistent export services, streamlined operations, and more opportunities in a broader range of markets. Food Export-Midwest concentrates its efforts primarily in Latin America and Asia, while Food Export-Northeast primarily focuses its efforts in Canada, Europe and the Middle East.

The agreement, which has been in effect since April 1, 2000, ensures that the organizations retain their independent status. Marketing efforts continue to be carried out by Food Export-Midwest's staff in Chicago and Food Export-Northeast's staff in Philadelphia, with support from international marketing personnel at each region's member state agricultural agencies.

Tim Hamilton serves as the Executive Director of both organizations. Mr. Hamilton has worked at Food Export-Midwest since 1991.
