Michigan Flavor Producer Makes Long Awaited Sale to Korea

by Food Export | Jan 10, 2019
In August 2014, LorAnn Oils, located in Lansing, Michigan, in the 8th Congressional District, attended Food Export - Midwest's Focused Trade Mission to Korea for Bakery Ingredients where they met with several Korean buyers and experienced the market firsthand.

After nearly 4 years of continuous communications with one key buyer and several rounds of documents and samples, they finally made a sale in early 2018 followed up with multiply sales throughout the year.  Although at first the sales were modest, eventually the shipments to Korea amounted to pallets of product.

According to Joseph Lothamer, International Sales Manager for LorAnn, sales to South Korea increased by 5 fold in 2018 and 2019 is looking very good as well.  The Korean customer is wanting to expand into other LorAnn lines.

LorAnn Oils is a producer of Essential Oils, Flavors and Extracts used in the bakery and specialty ingredients market segment.  The company has been in operation since 1962 and exports to more than 40 countries.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
