Indispensable to Export Success

by Food Export | Jan 31, 2019
Utilizing Food Export programs and services has helped Black Swan Gourmet BBQ Sauces gain international presence and expand their products into new markets. Black Swan credits much of their export success to the Food Export Helpline that guides them through the labyrinth of paperwork for shipping, custom processes and regulations. Food Export and Helpline Counselor, Dennis Lynch has been instrumental throughout Black Swan’s export history, providing in-depth answers and guidance regarding label modifications, invoice questions, document assistance and certification requirements.

Utilizing the Food Export HelplineTM for 10 years has helped the Illinois Supplier grow exports to Brazil, Belgium, Costa Rica and Indonesia. Max Good, Owner of Black Swan has said, “Black Swan is extremely grateful for the indispensable assistance we continue to receive from Food Export Association of the Midwest. Without their help, I can't imagine how we would have ongoing export success. I am baffled why the U.S. Government doesn't bolster the organization to help exporters like Black Swan level the playing field and achieve even more success in the global marketplace.”

In 2018, the free service of the Food Export HelplineTM was able to help guide the company through some questions regarding labeling for a shipment to Canada. Reported in November of 2018 by Good, this assistance helped Black Swan earn $15,000 in new export sales to the market while also projecting to complete $15,000 more over the next twelve months. “The Food Export Helpline has guided us effectively through the intricacies of exporting. Our clients and prospects are confident we are capable of getting the details right and avoiding problems. We are maintaining our current export clients, while exploring new relationships,” stated Good on his recent program evaluation.

Black Swan has participated in Food Export activities since 2009 realizing that the Buyers Missions are a low cost, effective way to meet qualified international buyers. Good has always been a great supporter of Food’s Exports programs and activities and was recently quoted saying, “The Food Export Helpline has been indispensable in our export success.”

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
