First-Time Market Sale for Maine Supplier

In May 2019, Luke’s Lobster, from Saco, Maine, utilized Food Export – Northeast’s Food Show PLUS!™ services while attending the Seafood Expo Global. The provided show services allowed the Maine Supplier to have pre-arranged, one-on-one meetings with various buyers.

By the end of 2019, the company was able to report $930,720 in new export sales of seafood due to their trade show experience. From the two new agent relationships made, the Maine supplier also projects to complete at least $260,000 more in export sales over the next twelve months.

According to Emily Lane, International Sales Manager, “I always find the show in Belgium to involve high quality, focused buyers.” As a result, Luke’s Lobster has completed its first-time export sale to ten new markets and established two new distributorships.

In 2019, Luke’s Lobster also utilized Food Export – Northeast’s Market Access Program (MAP) funded Branded Program to expand export sales to Belgium, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.

Luke’s Lobster is North America's only seafood processing plant that is both SQF Level III and MSC Certified. The company is a full processor of both Lobster and Jonah Crab. Luke's Lobster has been consistently voted the best lobster roll in New York City. Luke's Lobster currently has over 30 restaurants in the US and in Japan and Taiwan.

As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
